The first strategy to make money online is building a list.
This strategy is the most important step to continue to make money long term. If you do not already have some type of autoreponder system you need to get one. Don't be cheap here either because your entire business will hinge on this one piece of software.
You can build your list many different ways. You can buy leads from reputable list building companies and get them into your autoresponder. Most good list building companies will have an option to send an email to your autoresponder so you don't have to manually input the leads information.
Another effective way of building your list is from the traffic that visits your website. This step, which is probably the most effective,does require you to have a website in order to implement an opt-in list form. Of course if your Affiliate program does offer a list management service then you can send traffic to the affiliate URL, but I don't recommend it as you will usually not be able to email the entire list with special offers.

It is rather interesting that most people do not take free online marketing tools seriously. Never mind that there is plenty of evidence around and even more examples of web sites and online entrepreneurs who have taken off in a hurry using only free online marketing tools.
In a way this reaction is not surprising because we have been brought up in world where we have been taught to firmly believe in the facts of life. One of the major facts of life is that there is no such thing as a free lunch and nothing valuable costs nothing.
While all this is true, most people have failed to realize that the World Wide Web has arrived with its’ own unique and rather unorthodox but highly effective set of rules.
Even fewer have taken note of the fact that the most successful online business model so far has been based on the heavy use of free marketing tools and heavy spending in marketing comes later when the web site has already started enjoying some success.
A Famous Example
When Bill Gates was playing catch up on the internet after an initial error of judgement over the future importance of the net, one of the areas where he found himself way behind was in free email services. The likes of Yahoo already had millions of users when Hotmail was re-launched.
Did one of the richest men in the world go for prime time television to advertise his new free email service? Did he book newspaper spots across the states? Not really, he used a free online marketing strategy that worked like a dream. A brief signature at the end of each email sent out invited the recipient to open a free Hotmail email account. The rest is history. This simple referral marketing strategy that cost nothing took Hotmail from virtually zero users to millions in a few short months.
There are numerous other examples, but I show this one because it is somebody we all know rather well.
Conventional Advertising Does Not Work Online
There is one other reason why free online advertising tools are so effective. And this is based on the fact that conventional advertising as we have always know it has so far been a big failure online.
Banner advertisements with all the color and gimmickry was such a huge failure that it prompted somebody to come up with what they thought would solve the problem and become a huge success. I am referring to the much-disliked and extremely annoying pop-up advertisements. Even the so-called pop-under ads that are supposedly less annoying have not been received with much enthusiasm online.
All these options are not free and people have been paying good money for them.
The reason why conventional ads do not work is simple and yet most people still don’t get it. Folks do not come online to be advertised to. They come online, usually with very little time on their hands and looking for some very specific information. Is it any wonder that any form of unsolicited advertising, be it pop-up ads or unsolicited email (SPAM), is so annoying?
This is why informative well-written articles are such an effective free online marketing tool. Only those who are interested in the information you have to offer will read your article. And they do not mind whatever advertising you put in the resource box at the bottom of the article, because it does not look like advertising to them. Especially when they are interested in getting more information on the subject at hand.
Marketing Is No Longer That Simple
What people need to realize is that marketing online does not fall into the neat offline categories we have been used to.
For example the most successful online advertising has been PPC ads or Pay -Per-Click ads. The main reason is that these ads have been based on relevance to the information being looked for right from the beginning. We first saw them next to search engine results. Those ugly small text things that looked like they were part of the results searched. They have worked like magic because advertisers only pay for actual clicks on their ads, so results and response to the ads are easily quantifiable.
It should not be lost on anybody that these ads actually do not look like ads. More so now when the market leader in PPC ads, Google have their AdSense ads in small sites and blogs all over the net. There is even more emphasis on relevance to the information being looked for.
Free Is Actually Not Free
Then the other extremely important factor to note is that many of the most effective online marketing tools are really not free. For instance, even if you write your own informative articles to use for marketing purposes, this is a very time-consuming exercise. Time is even more valuable than money because unlike money, it can never be recovered when it has been lost. So it is just that people pay using some other currency.

It easy to get carried away in Network Marketing, never is this so true as when it comes to purchasing or generating leads. Before I start I want to point out that all Network Marketing leads however generated have a cost, there is no such thing as a free lead or as is often heard a free lunch. Whether you pay with cold hard cash or whether you pay with time in generating leads has some sort of cost.
Once you have established the fact that there is a cost you then need to decide on a budget, whether that be three hours a week generating them, or $50 a week buying them. All professional business people set a budget for every area of there business, so why is it that many Network Marketers fail to set a budget, probably because most Network Marketers are new to business.

Having established a cost you are prepared to bear you should decide what results you are going to demand for your time and or money. But surely its about what you can get for your time and money I here you say, surely it should be the other way round. NO! nobody has ever made it in life by going to the market place and asking what it will give, they have always come up with want they want and demanded it until they got it, now sometimes it took some looking, but they new what they were looking for because they had a plan.
So you know how much it is going to cost, and you know what you are expecting for your money, the next step is to make the best use of these leads. Lets assume like most people you manage to get 2% of these leads to join your program, what are you going to do with the rest? How much are you going to spend on leads that go nowhere? People are looking for a solution to a problem. They did not like your solution but they are still looking.
Concentrate on building your list, having built a large network marketing leads bank do not be afraid to push a second or third proposal to the list after they have repeatedly ignored your first program. The trick is to cover as much of your advertising cost as you can so that you have more money to spend on more advertising for your primary business.
A good way of covering advertising is to push additional programs or even tools to help, this is how many large corporations are built. If you want to build a large business, you need to think and operate like a large business. People who think of there Network Marketing business like a hobby usually get paid pocket money.

Renowned website usability researcher, Jakob Nielsen, today (Nov 24) published results of his latest study. His test subjects used 139 websites. On average, they failed to find what they were looking for 35% of the time. Shockingly, 37% of users couldn't even find company location details!
What was surprising was that users didn't give up. They generally found the information they were after but they found it at a competitors site!
So how do you stop potential customers falling into the hands of your competitors? Nielsen is right when he suggests user research. Yes, its imperative that know what your users need at your site. But what he doesn't say is how to structure your website so it meets users needs.
There are two golden rules:

2) Write to your customer
Write first, build later
The real message on most websites is in the writing. It makes sense, then, that the writing should determine the structure.
Unfortunately, this is not the case for most businesses. For them, the writing is an afterthought. They structure and design their website first, then try to fit the writing to the structure. This flies in the face of common sense. When you speak to someone, you structure your speech around your message. You don't decide on a structure, then change the message to suit!
For a truly usable website, you need to plan what you want to say before you create the site perhaps even write the whole thing. The message the writing should determine the structure.
Write to your customer
So how do you decide what to write?
Firstly, don't think, What do I want to say?. When you're writing a website, you have to think, What does my customer want to know?. Its a very subtle difference, but its the key to engaging writing. And that's what you want to do engage the customer.
Most customers will want to know the basics:
– What do you do?
– What benefit do you offer them?
– Why should they choose your service or product?
– Why should they choose your service or product and not your competitors?
– What does it cost?
– How can they contact you?
– Where are you located?
Your website has to communicate a lot of information. And to make matters worse, you're going to have limited screen real-estate. Ideally, your customer wont have to scroll especially on your homepage (all your information will fit within a single window). And you cant fill the whole screen with writing, either. The design and navigation elements take up about a third of the window, and you should leave a bit for white space (you don't want to overwhelm your customer). As a rule of thumb, you should expect to have about 1/3 of the window at your disposal for the writing.
